Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X have enough power to get games rolling at high fps, but the new Xbox supports Variable Refresh Rate, VRR. The function ensures that the screen refresh rate is synchronized with the fps to deliver a smooth and nice experience. As the PS5 did not come with the feature from the start, we thought that VRR would not be present on the console at all, but now Sony has made some adjustments in its FAQ about the new console where the company announces that VRR will be implemented via a future software update . More specifically, this is written:

“PS5 hardware supports VRR through HDMI 2.1. After a future system software update, PS5 owners will be able to use the VRR feature of compatible TVs when playing games that support VRR.”

When the update will be released is currently unknown, but it should happen soon.
