Developers of The Legend of Zelda series are known for their relentless pursuit of innovation. Despite the recent release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom just last Friday, they are already setting their sights on the next installment in the beloved franchise.

In an interview with the New York Times, director Hidemaro Fujibayashi revealed that he “already has plans for the next Zelda game.” He further stated that Ganon, in particular, will continue to evolve as a villain in future games:

“It’s very possible from here on out that we will be able to see further character development and changes to his personality as the series continues. Ganondorf is an ingredient that we use to supplement gameplay.”

With strong sales figures and glowing reviews backing them up, it comes as no surprise that the team is forging ahead, even though many may have expected a well-deserved hiatus.
