There has been some news over the past year, around companies wanting to sell custom PS5 side panels. For example, the company Dbrand which was not allowed to sell alternative panels for PlayStation as Sony considered that the panels in question are part of the PS5 IP. Dbrand chose to ignore the warnings and still started selling their own designed versions of the panels. Dbrand is also known for responding to these cease and desist letters in a humorous and (if you will) childish way.

However, now Dbrand has chosen to close down its business anyway, after they received a warning letter from Sony threatening legal action if they did not stop the business. Via a not too polite response on Reddit, Dbrand wrote that they will close down the business until they can find out what applies and they also took the opportunity to call Sony terrorists:

“We’ve elected to submit to the terrorists’ demands… for now. While we strongly believe in the consumer’s right to customize and modify their hardware with aftermarket components, your Darkplates are now a collector’s item. You know what they say – you either die a Darkplates owner, or you live long enough to see yourself become the scalper. In closing, fuck you and especially fuck Sony. Talk soon”

The price for Dbrand’s PS5 Darkplates was $49 and if you wanted a sticker for the middle part, you had to add $10.
