Warner Bros. Games has officially canceled the highly anticipated Wonder Woman game, leading to the closure of its developer, Monolith Productions. The decision comes as part of a broader restructuring within Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which aims to shift focus toward its most profitable franchises.

Monolith Productions, best known for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, had been working on Wonder Woman since its announcement at The Game Awards in 2021. The game was expected to feature the studio’s Nemesis System, allowing for dynamic enemy interactions similar to their Middle-earth titles. Despite the excitement surrounding the project, Warner Bros. has decided to pull the plug, citing a shift in strategic priorities.

In addition to Monolith Productions, Warner Bros. Games has also closed Player First Games, the studio behind MultiVersus, and WB Games San Diego. The company has stated that it will now focus on established blockbuster franchises such as Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC (particularly Batman), and Game of Thrones, as it looks to maximize profitability in an increasingly competitive industry.

The closure of Monolith Productions marks the end of an era for the studio, which was founded in 1994 and acquired by Warner Bros. in 2004. Fans of the studio’s work and the now-canceled Wonder Woman game are left disappointed, with no indication of whether the project could be revived in the future under a different developer.
