Valve has officially opened reservations for its long-awaited new Steam Machine, giving PC gamers a chance to secure the company’s latest living-room gaming hardware ahead of its launch later this month.

Rather than using a traditional first-come, first-served pre-order system, Valve has introduced a reservation process designed to reduce scalping and bot activity. Eligible Steam users can now register their interest through Steam, with successful buyers selected through a randomized allocation system once the reservation period closes.

The new Steam Machine represents Valve’s biggest hardware push since the Steam Deck. Running SteamOS and built around custom AMD hardware, the compact system is designed to bring PC gaming to the living room in a console-like form factor while still offering access to players’ existing Steam libraries.

According to Valve, the Steam Machine will launch on June 29 with pricing starting at $1,049 for the 512GB model, while a larger 2TB version will be available for $1,349. Customers can also add the new Steam Controller as an optional accessory.

The reservation system is currently available across multiple regions, including North America, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Australia. To participate, users must have a Steam account in good standing and a qualifying purchase history. Valve says the approach is intended to create a fairer purchasing experience given the limited launch supply.

The launch comes after several delays linked to global component shortages. Despite the higher price compared to traditional consoles, Valve is positioning the Steam Machine as a flexible gaming PC rather than a subsidized console, emphasizing openness, customization, and seamless integration with the broader Steam ecosystem.

As excitement builds around the release, the Steam Machine could mark Valve’s most ambitious attempt yet to bridge the gap between PC gaming and the simplicity of a console experience.
