In a move that’s caught the attention of both fans and industry watchers, Sony has sent out surveys to select PlayStation users asking what they think about Nintendo’s upcoming console, the Switch 2. While it’s not every day that a major platform holder openly digs into a rival’s next-gen plans, it seems Sony is eager to understand what players are thinking—and maybe adjust its own strategy accordingly.

A Deep Dive Into the Survey

The questionnaire touches on several angles of the Switch 2 launch. Sony asks how likely players are to buy the console, which is rumored to drop on June 5th, 2025, at around $449.99 / £395.99. They’re also probing what aspects of the new hardware feel most appealing—like 4K docked resolution, HDR and 120fps support, and new magnetically-attaching Joy-Con 2 controllers with mouse compatibility.

Even features like GameChat via a dedicated TV button, a 7.3” 1080p LCD screen, and a USB camera for face-to-face gaming are part of the mix. In addition, Sony wants to know what would motivate a Switch 2 purchase: exclusive game upgrades, community engagement, new Mario Kart bundles, or simply the draw of shiny new hardware.

One of the more curious parts? Sony even wants opinions on Nintendo’s preorder model, which gives priority to players with a full year of paid Nintendo Switch Online and 50+ hours of playtime logged before April 2nd.

What’s Sony Up To?

While it’s no secret the Big Three (Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft) keep tabs on each other, this level of direct questioning is rare. It hints that Sony may be watching Nintendo’s hybrid formula more closely than ever, perhaps looking for cues as it continues refining its own hardware and services.

Whether it’s simple market research or a sign of something deeper brewing in the console wars, it’s clear that Sony isn’t ignoring the Switch 2 hype—far from it.
