Nowadays, you do not have to pay to be able to play, this is because there is a large selection of free titles available to you with a tight budget. At the same time, it is natural that developers and publishers need to get some form of income for their hard work. Usually this has been done through various microtransactions, battle passes and so on, but what about traditional advertising?

According to Business Insider sources, Microsoft is developing a program that would allow advertisers to place ads in their ‘free to play’ games. These ads would then appear as digitally displayed billboards, but it is not yet known if there will be other advertising options in play, such as avatarskin or video ads.

Business Insider’s sources say that this new opportunity for advertisements may be used no later than the third quarter of this year. Microsoft has not confirmed these plans, but says:

“We are always looking for ways to improve the experience for players and developers but we do not have anything further to share.”
