NZXT has recently unveiled two new additions to their keyboard lineup, the NZXT Function 2 and Function 2 MiniTKL. I’ve had the pleasure of using the latter for a couple of weeks, and I’m eager to share my experience with the NZXT Function 2 MiniTKL.

First off, let’s talk about design and build quality. The aluminum frame of the NZXT Function 2 MiniTKL exudes solidity and elegance. While the difference may be more pronounced in the full-sized version, the MiniTKL still offers a premium feel that’s hard to beat. I particularly appreciate the inclusion of the volume wheel, which provides a smoother experience compared to adjusting volume settings on my headset.

However, I do have a gripe with the three additional buttons on the keyboard. While they seem like a good idea in theory, it’s unfortunate that they can’t be reprogrammed, rendering them somewhat redundant in my opinion. Another minor annoyance is accidentally triggering the Windows lock key when moving the keyboard around on my desk, which can be frustrating.

On the bright side, the RGB lighting adds a touch of flair to the keyboard, and NZXT’s software makes it easy to customize to your heart’s content. Additionally, the ability to adjust key actuation distance from 1.0mm to 1.5mm caters to both gamers and typists, although I personally couldn’t discern a significant difference.

In terms of size, I find the MiniTKL form factor to be a sweet spot between functionality and compactness. While I can do without the Numlock section, which makes it ideal for typing-intensive tasks, there’s something about the slightly larger footprint that feels more comfortable for extended use. That said, I still appreciate the smaller size for use as an auxiliary keyboard, such as on my coffee table.

While the NZXT Function 2 MiniTKL leans more towards gamers with its tactile feel, I still find it enjoyable for extended typing sessions. However, the keys do exhibit a slight stiffness, which may not be to everyone’s liking. Key preference is subjective, and it’s essential to choose the switch type that suits your needs best.

Regarding pricing, while it’s not a significant factor for me personally, I do feel that the NZXT Function 2 MiniTKL may not offer the best value compared to some competing options in the same price range (1899 SEK). However, this is subjective, and individual preferences may vary.

Overall, the NZXT Function 2 MiniTKL is a solid keyboard with a sleek design and practical features. With some minor improvements in key feel and programmability, it could easily earn top marks.
