Nintendo Announces “Switch 2 Mini” – A Console So Small, You’ll Need Tweezers

In a surprise reveal this morning, Nintendo unveiled its most ambitious hardware project yet: the Nintendo Switch 2 Mini, a fully functional next-gen console that fits comfortably inside a matchbox – if you’re careful.

According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 Mini offers 4K gaming, ray tracing, and “joy-cons” the size of Tic Tacs. To accommodate the smaller form factor, cartridges have been replaced with nanotechnology-enhanced microchips that can only be inserted using a precision tool (included in the deluxe edition, of course). Touchscreen functionality has also returned, although you’ll need fingers the size of a LEGO minifig’s to use it properly.

Reggie Fils-Aimé (who has not worked at Nintendo since 2019) reportedly came out of retirement to test the device and called it “the ultimate portable experience — provided you don’t sneeze near it.”

To avoid the risk of losing the console in couch cushions or inside your cat, Nintendo will offer a Switch 2 Mini Dock shaped like a classic GameCube for safekeeping. The dock is fully functional as well — although it requires 12 AAA batteries and must be rewound manually every three hours.

Given the release date of March 32nd, fans are advised to stay skeptical — and to keep their magnifying glasses ready.
