IKEA and Xbox tease controller-inspired furniture collaboration
IKEA and Xbox are officially working together, with a cryptic teaser showing controller-inspired homeware — but prices, products and even the widely reported Gamescom reveal remain unconfirmed.

IKEA and Xbox have started teasing a new collaboration built around Microsoft's gaming brand, but the companies are keeping the practical details deliberately vague. A short joint Instagram clip shows close-up shots of objects that borrow shapes from an Xbox controller, suggesting that furniture and home accessories are part of the project.
The clearest glimpses are a bright green cushion shaped like a directional pad and a larger dark object whose circular top and stem resemble an oversized analogue stick. Depending on the angle, the latter could be a stool or a small table, but neither IKEA nor Xbox has identified it yet. That distinction matters, because several reports have gone further than the teaser actually supports.
The collaboration is real, but most details are not
What is confirmed is the partnership itself: the teaser was shared through the official IKEA and Xbox Instagram accounts. What has not been announced is just as important. There is currently no official product list, pricing, release date or confirmed market availability. M3 likewise notes that IKEA has not formally presented any products yet.
Claims that the entire collection will be unveiled at Gamescom on August 26 should also be treated cautiously. Video Games Chronicle traced that date to an image circulating online that appears to be AI-generated and does not match the products shown in the genuine teaser. With Gamescom taking place in Cologne next week, a bigger announcement would be plausible, but plausibility is not confirmation.
That also means purported product names and showroom images deserve skepticism for now. The authentic teaser is intentionally tight and abstract, so it does not establish how many items are being made or whether this is a permanent retail range, a limited collection or something more promotional. Until either company publishes a catalogue or product pages, those questions remain open.
IKEA already has history with gaming furniture
The Xbox partnership is less random than it first sounds. IKEA previously worked with ASUS Republic of Gamers on a dedicated gaming range. That collaboration produced more than 30 products across furniture and accessories, including desks, chairs, storage, a mug holder, mouse bungee, neck pillow and ring light. IKEA said at the time that the goal was to combine its home-furnishing expertise with ROG's knowledge of gaming needs.
The 2021 range was organized into six product families, with the UPPSPEL products designed directly with ROG and the rest developed by IKEA using knowledge gained through the partnership. IKEA's pitch emphasized ergonomics, practical organization and making gaming equipment fit more naturally into the home, rather than treating a gaming setup as a completely separate space.
That earlier range was aimed primarily at PC gamers and focused on practical setup problems such as stable desks and storage. The Xbox teaser looks more playful so far, turning recognizable controller elements into household objects rather than simply putting gaming branding on conventional furniture. Whether the final collaboration also includes more conventional desks, seating or storage is still unknown.
For now, wait for the actual reveal
There is enough here to confirm that IKEA and Xbox are working together, and enough in the teaser to expect at least some controller-inspired homeware. Beyond that, the safest answer is to wait. Until the companies publish names, specifications, prices and availability, images claiming to show a complete IKEA x Xbox range should not be treated as official.
The collaboration is still worth watching because IKEA has already demonstrated that it wants a place in gaming rooms without relying exclusively on stereotypical gaming-furniture design. If Xbox brings a more console-focused angle this time, the interesting question will be whether the finished products are useful pieces of furniture first, or mostly novelty items for fans. The teaser does not answer that yet.
