This weekend, New World players found a way to make money in a dishonest way, which has led the developers to put a stop to all forms of wealth trading in the game. Players discovered that the chat box could run HTML code, which initially led to images being sent via the chat box but led to a bit more foul play such as kicking players off the servers and duplicating gold. In a statement, the developers write this:

“We are aware of a possible gold duplication exploit that has been circling and we are temporarily disabling all forms of wealth transfer between players (ie. Sending currency, guild treasury, trading post, player to player trading).”

The developers also write that all players who have used the chat box’s weaknesses will be punished, but don’t go into detail what kind of punishment they will get. Gold trading will be suspended until the developers fix the problem, but how long it will take is currently unknown.
