Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Rumored to Switch to Unreal Engine 5

Saying that Hogwarts Legacy was a massive success would be an understatement. After years of troubled development, delays, and threats of boycotts from critics of J.K. Rowling, the game ended up being the best-selling game of 2023. And not only that, it also received consistently high ratings.

Developers had early on indicated that Hogwarts Legacy would be a complete experience with no DLC in the works, and it’s assumed that development of the sequel is already well underway, based on several job postings. Now, Tech4Gamers notes that it seems Avalanche Software, for Hogwarts Legacy 2, will be switching game engines from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5.

Once again, it’s a job listing that reveals this, as the studio is seeking a Senior Character Artist, and the person is expected to have “experience with game engines such as Unreal Engine 4/5.” Warner and Avalanche Software aren’t shy about discussing the future of their wizarding series, even stating in the listing that the application is for “the team behind the blockbuster open world, action RPG Hogwarts Legacy as we create what’s next.”

The fact that they’re seeking developers skilled in Unreal Engine 5 hopefully means we can look forward to a significantly more visually stunning game next time around. Despite being initially intended for Playstation 4 and Xbox One, and also coming to Switch, Hogwarts Legacy, with Unreal Engine 5 and dropped support for older hardware, may deliver something truly spectacular.
