Apple Unveils AirPods 4 with Enhanced Features and USB-C, Updates AirPods Max
Apple has officially announced the launch of the new AirPods 4 at its recent “It’s Glowtime” event, introducing significant upgrades to the popular wireless earbuds line. The AirPods 4 come in two models: a base model and one with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), catering to a broader range of users and preferences. The new models feature several improvements, including a redesigned shape, better sound quality, and a switch to USB-C charging.
Key Features of AirPods 4
1. New Design and Comfort Enhancements:
Apple has refined the design of the AirPods 4 to create a more comfortable fit for a wider range of users. The updated shape is intended to “naturally fit” more ear shapes, making them more accessible and comfortable for long-term wear. This change addresses some user concerns about the fit of previous AirPods models and aims to improve the overall user experience.
2. Active Noise Cancellation and Improved Audio:
The higher-end model of the AirPods 4 introduces Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a feature previously reserved for the AirPods Pro line. This addition enhances the listening experience by reducing background noise, making the AirPods 4 more competitive in the crowded wireless earbuds market. Both models also include better audio drivers for improved sound quality, delivering richer bass and clearer treble.
3. USB-C Charging and Better Battery Life:
One of the most anticipated updates is the switch to a USB-C charging case, aligning with the broader move across Apple’s product ecosystem. This change simplifies charging for users with multiple Apple devices and offers more flexibility with charging accessories. The AirPods 4 models promise up to 30 hours of battery life, providing extended listening time compared to their predecessors.
Updates to AirPods Max
Alongside the AirPods 4, Apple also announced updates to the AirPods Max, which now come with a USB-C charging port and new color options, including Midnight, Blue, Purple, Orange, and Starlight. These updates bring the AirPods Max in line with Apple’s current charging standard but do not include internal hardware changes. The AirPods Max will also gain support for Personalized Spatial Audio with the upcoming iOS 18 software update, enhancing the immersive audio experience for users.
Availability and Pricing
The new AirPods 4 models are available for pre-order now, with prices starting at $129 for the base model and $179 for the model with Active Noise Cancellation. The updated AirPods Max will be available to pre-order for $549. All models are expected to hit stores on September 20, 2024.
Apple’s latest updates to the AirPods lineup highlight the company’s continued commitment to innovation in personal audio, offering users a wider range of options with improved sound quality, comfort, and new features.
