In a recent interview with IGN, Eiji Aonuma, the producer of the beloved Legend of Zelda series, addressed the ongoing debate among fans regarding the direction of the franchise. Many enthusiasts welcomed the refreshing experiences offered by titles like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which presented a more open and less constrained Zelda adventure.

However, not all fans share this sentiment, with a vocal group expressing a desire for a return to a more traditional format. Aonuma acknowledged the criticism and shared his perspective on the matter, saying, “Well, I do think we as people have a tendency to want the thing that we don’t currently have, and there’s a bit of a grass is greener mentality.”

Aonuma finds it interesting when fans express a preference for the older entries in the series, questioning the appeal of returning to a style of game that is more limited or restricted in terms of gameplay possibilities. He added, “But I do understand that desire that we have for nostalgia, and so I can also understand it from that aspect.”

The question arises: should we interpret Aonuma’s comments as a hint of what’s to come for the series? It might be too early to draw conclusions, as many fans hope that Nintendo will continue to build upon the success of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
