Valve’s revived Steam Controller is off to a chaotic start. Shortly after launch, the new gamepad reportedly sold out in minutes, leaving many PC gamers stuck with failed checkout attempts and empty carts.

Valve has now acknowledged that demand was stronger than expected and says more units are on the way, though no exact restock date has been confirmed yet. The rush also appears to have attracted scalpers, with units quickly showing up on resale platforms at inflated prices.

The strong demand is especially interesting considering the original Steam Controller had a far more divisive run. This time, however, excitement around Valve’s wider hardware ecosystem — including Steam Deck, Steam Machine and Steam Frame — seems to have turned the controller into one of the year’s hottest PC gaming accessories.

For now, buyers will need to keep an eye on Steam for Valve’s next availability update.
