The hottest gossip of the past few days has now been officially confirmed by Valve – Counter-Strike 2 is under development and will represent the next step in the iconic FPS series, with a planned release date already set for this summer (!). The game will be completely free, and among the announced changes compared to CS:GO, “sub tick rate” is primarily mentioned as one of the most groundbreaking. This is directly related to latency and input, which is described in detail in this new video from Valve.

When it comes to maps, Valve has confirmed that they will keep most of the classic ones from previous games, but with updated graphics and lighting. Their mindset and approach towards the maps in Counter-Strike 2 is described in more detail in this video from Valve. Finally, Valve also announces that smoke grenades have been significantly updated and are now considered a volumetric object. A detailed breakdown of this can be found in this video. Exciting updates and more are sure to come.
