Gamers hoping to return to the world of The Witcher anytime soon will have to hold off a bit longer. CD Projekt Red has now confirmed that The Witcher 4 — internally codenamed Polaris — isn’t planned to release until 2027 at the earliest.

The update comes from CDPR’s latest financial report, where the studio revealed that a significant chunk of its development team is now working on the title. Despite that, the company made it clear that there are currently no plans to release the game before the end of 2026.

This news effectively rules out any 2025 or 2026 launch window, and fans can now reset their expectations to a far more distant horizon. The Witcher 4 is also planned as the first entry in a brand-new trilogy set within the Witcher universe — meaning the studio is clearly thinking long-term with this project.

Given the massive scope expected from CDPR’s next open-world RPG, it’s no surprise development will take several years. After the bumpy launch of Cyberpunk 2077, the studio seems keen to avoid similar pitfalls by giving its teams more time to build and polish.

While it’s disappointing for those itching for more Witcher content, the delay could be a good sign. More time in development typically means a more refined and ambitious final product — and if CD Projekt Red delivers, The Witcher 4 could be worth the wait.
