Samsung Unveils Next-Generation Galaxy S24 Series with Groundbreaking AI Features

Seoul, January 17, 2024 — Today, Samsung officially introduced the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24, marking the dawn of a new era by ushering in mobile experiences powered by Galaxy AI[i]. Leveraging the capabilities of AI, several aspects of mobile usage are enhanced and simplified, ranging from communication with smart text and conversation translations to creative possibilities with Samsung Galaxy’s ProVisual Engine. Furthermore, a new standard for searches is set, potentially transforming how Samsung Galaxy users discover the world around them.

Elevating Everyday Experiences

Galaxy AI offers intelligent features designed to simplify daily life, particularly in the realm of communication. With the Galaxy S24, overcoming language barriers becomes easier. Whether chatting with a classmate or colleague from abroad or making a reservation while on vacation, Live Translate[ii] facilitates real-time two-way translations of conversations and text directly within the phone’s native app. No external apps are required, and AI within the device ensures that conversations remain private.

The Interpreter feature allows conversations to be translated directly on a shared screen, enabling individuals facing each other to read a text transcription of what the other person has said. This function works even without mobile data or Wi-Fi.

For messages and other applications, Chat Assist helps fine-tune the tone of conversations, such as crafting a polite message to a colleague or a concise and engaging caption tailored for social media[iii]. Samsung’s keyboard, equipped with AI technology, also enables quick real-time translation of messages in 13 languages[iv]. In the car, Android Auto[v] automatically summarizes incoming messages and suggests relevant replies and actions, such as sending your estimated arrival time, allowing for seamless connectivity while maintaining full focus on driving.

To organize more efficiently, Note Assist[vi], in Samsung Notes, provides AI-generated summaries and the ability to create templates with predefined formats. The Cover feature generates simple overviews for quick identification of notes. Transcript Assist[vii] utilizes AI and speech-to-text technology to transcribe, summarize, and translate voice recordings, even when multiple speakers are involved.

Communication is not the only area where the Galaxy S24 series is evolving for the future. With Circle to Search with Google[viii] in the Galaxy S24, a step towards a new, intuitive, and gesture-based way of searching online is taken. Developed in collaboration with Google, this tool allows new ways of discovery with a simple gesture. By long-pressing the home button, users can highlight or tap on objects on the screen to receive relevant search results. This streamlines quick information searches directly within apps. A beautiful landmark in the background of a friend’s social media post or a surprisingly fun fact in a video can swiftly turn into a search. Additionally, comprehensive overviews provide additional information and context gathered from the entire web, allowing users to ask more complex and nuanced questions.

Exploring the World in New Ways with Creativity in Focus

The ProVisual Engine[ix] of the Galaxy S24 series is a collection of AI-driven tools that transform and maximize creative freedom at every step of the image-capturing process, from capturing the image to sharing it on social media. Blurry and pixelated images taken from a distance are a thing of the past. With the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Quad Tele System and the new 5x optical zoom lens, in collaboration with a 50MP sensor, optical quality is achieved at zoom levels from 2x, 3x, 5x to 10x[x] enlargement, thanks to the Adaptive Pixel Sensor. Even with a powerful digital zoom of 100x, the images remain sharp and detailed, thanks to the camera’s enhanced digital zoom technology that helps improve image quality at high zoom levels.

With upgraded Nightography features, photos and videos taken with Galaxy S24 Space Zoom are optimized under all conditions, even when zooming in. The Galaxy S24 Ultra captures more light in low-light conditions with larger pixels at 1.4 μm, which is 60% larger compared to the previous model[xi]. Blurring is reduced on the Galaxy S24 Ultra with wider angles for optical image stabilization (OIS) and improved shake compensation. When recording videos, both front and rear cameras are equipped with a dedicated ISP block for noise reduction. Additionally, the Galaxy S24 analyzes gyro information to differentiate between the filmmaker’s and subject’s movements, enabling more efficient noise reduction and clear videos in low light, even at a distance.

After taking photos, the Galaxy S24 offers innovative editing tools for easy adjustments such as deleting, recomposing, and enhancing images. To facilitate and streamline editing further, the Edit Suggestion[xii] feature suggests smart and fitting adjustments for each image. To give users even more creative control and freedom, Generative Edit[xiii] can fill in parts of the image background using generative AI. For example, if an image is tilted, AI can fill in the edges, or if an object needs to be moved to a different position, AI allows the user to adjust the object’s placement and creates a perfectly blended background in the object’s original location. Each time the Galaxy S24 uses generative AI to enhance an image, a watermark is displayed on the image and in the image’s metadata. To slow down action-packed video clips, the new Instant Slow-mo can generate additional frames based on movements to smoothly slow down fast events and create a detailed slow-motion video.

Capturing and sharing memories are fundamental functions of a mobile phone. Super HDR in the Samsung Galaxy S24 series enhances the entire photo experience, including previews of images before they are taken. The advanced camera and Super HDR features of the Samsung Galaxy S series are now integrated into several popular social media apps. This means that images and videos shared via these apps are automatically optimized with HDR, providing improved image and video quality in the apps[xiv]. When searching for an image in the Gallery or on Instagram’s feeds and reels, photos and videos are also displayed in Super HDR. This technology analyzes selected parts of the images to give them a more realistic spectrum of brightness, color, and contrast.

As AI becomes an increasingly integral part of daily life for many, improved performance is also required to meet the new demands posed by the use of these features. Whether for advanced gaming, demanding video recording and editing, or switching between multiple apps, the Galaxy S24 offers an optimized experience, thanks in part to enhancements in the chipset[xv] and screen. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy[xvi], specially optimized for Samsung Galaxy users. This chipset provides significant NPU improvements for highly efficient AI processing. In all three Galaxy S24 models, adaptive refresh rates from 1-120 Hz also contribute to improved efficiency and performance.
