The importance of indoor air quality has skyrocketed in recent times, with a newfound emphasis on maintaining a clean and healthy environment in our homes. While we are accustomed to using powerful vacuum cleaners to eliminate dirt and potentially harmful particles from our surfaces, the notion of caring for the air we breathe was not as prevalent before 2020. In the past, owning a high-quality air purifier was considered more of a luxury rather than a necessity. However, the collective impact of the pandemic and previous bushfire incidents has significantly altered the way Australians perceive home hygiene.

Today more or less everyone are familiar with HEPA filters, which are renowned for maintaining clean and dense air quality during flights. In today’s technologically advanced households, an expensive air purifier is as commonplace as a smart display or video doorbell. Furthermore, consumers are becoming more discerning regarding the various types of filters that are commonly found in high-end purifiers. In this increasingly competitive market, customers are now asking the right questions and seeking out the best options for their needs.

In terms of design, it could be mistaken for a floor speaker.

For a while now, Philips has been keeping up with the increasing demand for air purifiers, and their latest addition to the Series 3000i Air Purifier range – the AC3033 – is definitely worth considering when it comes to safeguarding your home. Typically, air purifiers are sought after by individuals or families who are affected by hayfever, with the device primarily intended to eliminate allergens and pollutants, such as dust, pollen, bacteria, aerosols, and even gases, from the air. The ultimate aim is to enhance the overall quality of the air indoors, which is a vital aspect of any healthy household.

Design & Features

The latest addition to Philips’ 3000i Air Purifier series boasts a striking circular tower design that manages to appear soft and inviting despite its substantial size (my 6-year old keeps asking me if it can play music). Measuring 64.5 x 29 x 29cm, the device is neither overly bulky nor excessively heavy, making it easily portable for moving it around different rooms in your home—an advantageous feature that allows the purifier to work its magic throughout your entire living space. With a capacity to effectively purify rooms up to around 130m2, it surpasses the requirements of most households, including mine, where the average room size is around 30m2.

The Philips 3000i can be controlled through touch buttons on top or through the App.

Similar to other advanced air purifiers, the AC3033 utilizes the NanoProtect HEPA filter, which combines the efficiency of a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter with an active carbon filter. This powerful combination enables the device to effectively eliminate up to 99.9 percent of bacteria and viruses, along with larger particles such as pollen, pet dander, and unpleasant odors. By employing this advanced filtration system, the purifier ensures a cleaner and healthier environment for you and your household.

Operating the Philips AC3033 was a straightforward experience. The standard setting (auto mode) works great and allowed me to simply set it up and let it work without constant adjustments. Additionally, with the convenience of the accompanying app, I was able to effortlessly schedule a transition from auto mode to sleep mode during nighttime hours.

Once the initial setup was complete, the maintenance required minimal effort.

Verdict

At 4390 SEK, the device doesn’t come cheap. However, when it comes to curating a modern smart home, it’s expected to invest in essential components for maintaining a clean and livable household, even if they come with a substantial price tag. This is especially true if you have a significant need for an air purifier, such as constant hayfever. It also comforts me to know that my two kids can breathe fresh and healthy air when being inside (can’t put a price on that).
