Insomniac Games has released a four-minute features trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, giving players one of the clearest looks yet at how Logan’s combat, traversal and mutant abilities fit together. The footage arrives just over two weeks before the PlayStation 5 exclusive launches on September 15, 2026.

The trailer reinforces the game’s close-range focus. Wolverine can chain claw strikes, kicks and critical attacks while pushing aggressively through groups of enemies, rather than fighting from a distance. Insomniac says momentum is central to the combat system, with Logan able to use his environment and his physical strength to keep pressure on opponents.

Wolverine’s healing factor is part of the combat loop

Logan’s regenerative abilities are more than a story detail. Insomniac has described a Last Stand mechanic that can activate his healing factor when he is badly hurt, allowing him to recover and continue fighting. The new footage also highlights the kind of damage the character can dish out, making it clear that this is a considerably more violent superhero game than the studio’s Spider-Man titles.

That tone is deliberate. Insomniac has repeatedly described Marvel’s Wolverine as a brutal, single-player action-adventure built around an original Logan story. The game is not open world; PlayStation’s official FAQ instead describes it as a narrative-driven adventure, while earlier gameplay details have shown missions ranging from vehicle encounters to more contained combat spaces.

A globe-spanning story, but not an open world

Marvel’s Wolverine sends Logan across several locations as he searches for answers about his past. Confirmed settings include Madripoor, Canada and Tokyo. Story material released over the summer has also established Jean Grey as an important character, while Insomniac has teased a broader cast drawn from Wolverine’s corner of the Marvel universe.

The four-minute overview is therefore less about unveiling a surprise and more about pulling the game’s established pieces together. Combat is fast and physical, Logan’s mutant powers feed directly into gameplay, and the campaign is structured as a focused single-player experience rather than another map filled with open-world activities.

Release date and platform

Marvel’s Wolverine launches for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. Sony lists Standard and Digital Deluxe editions, and the game is being developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with Marvel Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is built specifically for PS5 and will not be released for PlayStation 4.

PlayStation has also confirmed a broad set of accessibility options covering areas such as cognitive, visual, auditory and motor assistance. Insomniac’s August features breakdown says the launch version will include options spanning gameplay assists, motion sensitivity, visual filters, audio, subtitles and violence customisation.

The final stretch before launch

Gamereactor’s report notes that the game has now completed development, leaving the September release as the next major milestone. With the latest trailer concentrating on systems rather than another large story reveal, Sony and Insomniac appear to be using the final weeks to show prospective players exactly what controlling Wolverine will involve.

The result is a compact overview of a game that has been positioned around a simple promise: put Wolverine’s speed, aggression, claws and resilience at the centre of the experience.
