The initial reveal was brief, so the anniversary broadcast could provide a logical venue for more details. Nintendo has not confirmed that the remake will appear on September 8.

The anniversary already has major projects around it

The Zelda anniversary is unfolding during an unusually busy period for the franchise. Alongside the Ocarina of Time remake, Nintendo is involved in a live-action The Legend of Zelda film scheduled for 2027. In its February investor briefing, the company said filming had begun and described film and video projects as part of its wider effort to create more ways for consumers to engage with Nintendo intellectual property.

That still leaves plenty of unanswered questions about how Nintendo intends to mark four decades of Hyrule beyond projects that were already public. Separating the two presentations suggests Nintendo wants Zelda to have its own space rather than consuming a large portion of the broader showcase.

For Zelda fans, September 8 should therefore be treated as the confirmed window for the anniversary-focused presentation, while the contents remain open. The most concrete game to watch is Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 because Nintendo has already announced it for 2026, but even its presence in the Direct has not been formally specified in the information currently available.
