Killzone Remaster or Remake Reportedly in Early Development

Killzone may be heading back to PlayStation, but the reported revival is still far from an official reveal. MP1st reports that Guerrilla Games is involved with an external studio on a remaster or remake of a Killzone title, with the project described as being in the very early stages of production.

The report does not identify which game is being reworked, and Sony Interactive Entertainment has not announced a new Killzone. That distinction matters: the original 2004 game is an obvious candidate, but at this point it is speculation rather than a confirmed target.

What the new Killzone report actually claims

According to MP1st, the project is being developed with help from a studio outside PlayStation's first-party group. The outlet says Guerrilla remains involved and describes the work as a “remaster/remake,” language that leaves the exact scale of the project unresolved.

The same reporting links People Can Fly to the project, but that connection has not been confirmed. There is, however, a verified Sony relationship behind the speculation. PCF Group disclosed in March 2025 that it had signed a prototype development agreement with Sony Interactive Entertainment for a game codenamed Project Delta, based on intellectual property owned by Sony and produced under a work-for-hire model.

That filing establishes that People Can Fly has been working with Sony on a Sony-owned property. It does not say the property is Killzone, so Project Delta and the reported Killzone revival should not be treated as the same project unless Sony, Guerrilla or People Can Fly confirms the link.

A return would bring Killzone back after a long absence

Guerrilla created the original Killzone for PlayStation 2, released in 2004, before Sony acquired the studio in 2005. Sony later revisited that first game with Killzone HD for PlayStation 3, meaning a modern version would not technically be the franchise's first remastering effort.

The series continued through Killzone 2, Killzone 3 and the PS4 launch title Killzone: Shadow Fall, alongside handheld entries. Guerrilla subsequently shifted its main attention to Horizon, leaving Killzone without a new release for more than a decade.

Remaster or remake is still an important unknown

The wording of the report leaves plenty of room between a relatively conservative visual and technical upgrade and a more substantial remake. No platforms, release window, gameplay changes or pricing have been reported with enough certainty to treat them as established details.

There is also no confirmation that the 2004 original is the chosen game. Starting there would make chronological sense, particularly for a PlayStation audience that cannot simply buy a current native version of the whole series, but that is an inference rather than evidence about the project's scope.

What to watch next

For now, the strongest claim is narrow: a credible report says a Killzone remaster or remake is in very early production with Guerrilla and an external development partner. People Can Fly is a plausible candidate because its separate Project Delta agreement with Sony is documented, but the identity of the partner and the Killzone game involved remain unconfirmed.

With development reportedly at an early stage, an announcement may not be imminent and plans can still change. Until PlayStation or one of the developers speaks publicly, this should be treated as a well-sourced rumor rather than a confirmed addition to Sony's release schedule.
