LEGO Astro Bot Is Official, but Its PlayStation Bundle Status Is Still Unclear

LEGO has quietly listed a brick-built Astro Bot model just days before its first PlayStation console set reaches stores. Set 40899 turns Team Asobi’s little robot into a 276-piece display figure, complete with a stand, cape, blue propulsion effects and interchangeable eyes.

There is one important wrinkle: while several reports describe Astro Bot as a free extra tied specifically to the new LEGO PlayStation, LEGO’s own Swedish store page is less clear. It labels the model as a “gift with purchase”, but at the time of writing it also displays a price of 249.90 kr and an Add to Bag button. LEGO’s published Swedish promotion terms do not yet spell out an Astro Bot offer or confirm that buying set 72306 is the only way to get it.

A 276-piece Astro Bot built for display

The official listing confirms most of the physical details. Astro Bot stands 20 cm tall with his arms extended, measures 12 cm wide and 7 cm deep including the stand, and is aimed at builders aged 18 and over. His head can rotate, his arms can be repositioned, and the included eye pieces can be swapped between round and half-moon shapes to change his expression.

The model also includes the character’s cape and blue jet effects, while the stand lets the finished figure be posed as a desk or shelf display. LEGO describes 40899 as a collectible gaming decoration rather than a conventional playset.

The PlayStation set arrives in October

Astro Bot’s appearance comes alongside LEGO PlayStation 72306, a 1,911-piece recreation of Sony’s original console and controller. The near-1:1-scale model includes working Open and Power button mechanisms, a controller that plugs into the front and two removable miniature dioramas based on Gran Turismo and Ape Escape.

LEGO says the PlayStation set will be available to LEGO Insiders from October 1, 2026, before its wider release on October 4. The Swedish LEGO store lists it at 1,999.90 kr. International recommended pricing announced by LEGO is $179.99, €159.99 and £139.99.

Is Astro Bot really exclusive to PlayStation buyers?

That is the part that remains unresolved. The original report says Astro Bot is included only when buying the LEGO PlayStation and while stocks last. Independent LEGO coverage has also connected the two products, but LEGO’s Astro Bot product page does not currently publish a qualifying purchase threshold, promotional period or explicit requirement to buy set 72306.

The Swedish listing makes the situation even more unusual because it shows a 249.90 kr price alongside an active-looking purchase button while simultaneously describing Astro Bot as a gift with purchase. That could reflect how LEGO’s store handles promotional products before an offer starts, or it could indicate separate availability, but LEGO has not clarified that on the pages checked for this story.

For now, the safe conclusion is that Astro Bot 40899 is real, contains 276 pieces and is officially designated as a gift-with-purchase model. The exact conditions for receiving it — and whether it can actually be bought separately in Sweden — should be considered unconfirmed until LEGO publishes the promotion terms.
