Jim Carrey is set to reprise his role as Dr. Ivo Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, despite earlier comments hinting at retirement following Sonic the Hedgehog 2. In a recent interview, Carrey explained his decision with humor, saying, “I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.”

In addition to his return as the iconic villain, Carrey will also play Robotnik’s grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, marking a rare instance where he will portray two characters in the same movie. Director Jeff Fowler expressed gratitude for Carrey’s commitment, acknowledging that his involvement was key to the continuation of the Sonic franchise.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will also introduce the fan-favorite character, Shadow the Hedgehog. The film is set to bring back Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails as they battle the new threat posed by Shadow. Fans can look forward to the film’s release on December 25, 2024.
