Just three months ago in November, Grand Theft Auto V had “only” sold a modest 190 million copies throughout its lifetime. Fast forward to now, and the game has sold an additional five million copies, bringing it tantalizingly close to the 200 million unit milestone – a feat that still must be considered quite impressive.

This also means that a game from 2013, originally released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, has been averaging nearly two million copies sold every month over the past quarter. As Grand Theft Auto VI gears up for release next year, even if it manages to sell a staggering 100 million copies, it will still be a sequel that only achieved half the sales of its predecessor.
