You may have heard the rumor that EA intends to change the name of its immensely popular football game series FIFA from next year. What the name will be instead is not clear, but EA has trademarked the name EA Sports FC, which suggests that this may be the new name (😒).

Rumors are now spreading about why EA chooses to change their name to perhaps their most recognizable game name. The report, which comes from the New York Times, says that FIFA wants to have more than twice as much in license money from EA if they want to continue using the FIFA name for the game.

EA’s current agreement with FIFA is said to expire in 2022 and FIFA wants to take the opportunity to increase the cost of the license to more than one billion dollars every four years.
