In the past six months, Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, has witnessed a substantial departure of approximately 11 million users, equivalent to slightly more than the current population of Sweden. Users have packed their bags, bid their farewells, and sought greener pastures elsewhere.

This revelation comes from a report published by TradingPlatforms, a source further substantiated by data from Statista, which reveals a decline in subscribers from nearly 165 million during the fourth quarter of 2022 to 147 million at the end of September. In other words, Disney+ has experienced a net loss of over 18 million paying customers throughout the year.

This significant decline can be attributed to various factors, with Disney’s loss of the cricket broadcasting rights in India and the ongoing strike in Hollywood being prominent contributors. It remains unclear whether Disney’s plans to curtail account sharing among users have also played a role in this user migration.
