Borderlands 4 Set for September 12 Launch on Major Platforms, Switch 2 Release Delayed
Gearbox Software has announced that Borderlands 4 will launch on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, the Nintendo Switch 2 version is slated for a later release within the same year. According to Gearbox’s official FAQ, the game will arrive on Switch 2 “later in 2025,” with more details to be shared at a future date.
The delay for the Switch 2 version means that players on Nintendo’s latest console will have to wait a bit longer to experience the looter-shooter action. Despite the staggered release, Gearbox has confirmed that cross-play will be supported at launch, allowing Switch 2 players to join their friends on other platforms once the game becomes available.
Borderlands 4 is set on the new planet Kairos and introduces four new Vault Hunters. The game promises a seamless world without loading screens, enhanced traversal mechanics like gliding and grappling, and a mix of both returning and new characters. Post-launch content will include both free and paid DLC, expanding the game’s universe further.
Pre-orders are now open, with the Standard Edition priced at $69.99. Deluxe and Super Deluxe Editions, offering additional content such as DLC packs and cosmetic items, are available at $99.99 and $129.99, respectively. All pre-orders come with the Gilded Glory Pack, which includes exclusive skins and gear.
Fans can look forward to more updates during the upcoming Borderlands Fan Fest on June 21, where new gameplay footage and story details are expected to be revealed.
