The US Supreme Court announced yesterday that they will not settle Apple’s patent dispute with the company VirnetX, which means that earlier verdicts in the case are upheld. According to a previous ruling, Apple will pay $ 440 million in damages to VirnetX after the US judicial system in several instances deemed Apple infringed on VirnetX’s patent.

It’s about a dispute from 2010 when VirnetX sued Apple when they felt that Apple had used their patented technology, in (among other things) its video chat program FaceTime. Apple has on several occasions appealed against the verdict, but now that the Supreme Court will not take up the case, it looks like Apple will have to pay damages for its patent infringement.
