Unique copy of Super Mario Bros. sold for 5.8 million
The record for the most expensive game purchase has been beaten. Last year, a copy of the infamous Sony Playstation console was auctioned , and the winning bid landed at just over 3 million SEK (about 350 000 USD), something that until Friday was considered the record when it came to expensive gaming. This weekend, however, it was time for a unique edition of the very first Super Mario Bros game for NES to be offered to the public, and the winning bid was 660,000 US dollars(!).
The reason for the high price is said to be because the copy was wrapped, in a very good condition and that it was a very early edition of the game before Nintendo had put its own trademark symbol. The previous record for a Super Mario Bros. cassette was reached in November last year when another copy was sold for around SEK 1.3 million.
