The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is still pulling in huge numbers at cinemas, but fans will soon be able to watch Mario’s latest adventure from home.

Nintendo and Illumination’s animated sequel has now become the highest-grossing movie of 2026 so far, with global box office earnings closing in on the billion-dollar mark. That puts it ahead of the year’s other major releases and proves once again that Mario’s jump from consoles to cinema is no one-off success.

The film will be released digitally on May 19, giving fans early access while it is still performing strongly in theaters. The home version is also expected to include over an hour of bonus material, including behind-the-scenes features and extra content for fans of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Following the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, expectations were high for this space-themed sequel. With its Galaxy-inspired setting, familiar characters, and broader cosmic scale, the movie appears to have landed exactly where Nintendo and Illumination wanted: as one of the year’s biggest entertainment events.

A physical release on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray is planned for June, while subscription streaming will arrive later.
