Steam Smashes Record with Over 40 Million Concurrent Users
Steam has officially crossed the 40 million simultaneous users mark, setting a new high point for the PC gaming platform. According to SteamDB data shared via Bluesky, more than 40,017,061 users were logged in and active at the same moment.
This surge reflects Steam’s accelerating growth: just months prior, the platform peaked at around 33.7 million concurrent users in January 2024, and later passed 39 million—highlighting how quickly the player base is expanding.
Interestingly, not all who were counted were actively playing games. Of that 40 million, roughly 12 million were engaged in gameplay, while the remainder were logged into the platform.
Steam’s trajectory underscores why developers and publishers continue to prioritize PC releases. The sheer scale and consistent growth make Steam nearly impossible to ignore as a distribution channel.
