Sony has unveiled the WH-1000XM6, the newest flagship headphones in its renowned 1000X series. Combining cutting-edge noise cancelling, professional-grade sound tuning, and smarter, more comfortable design, these wireless headphones aim to deliver the ultimate audio experience for music lovers, travelers, and professionals alike.

The WH-1000XM6 features Sony’s most advanced noise cancelling technology to date, powered by the new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3. This processor is seven times faster than its predecessor and works alongside twelve precisely positioned microphones—50% more than the previous model—to analyze and block ambient noise in real time. Whether you’re navigating a noisy commute or working in a busy café, the result is uninterrupted, crystal-clear audio.

Sony’s Adaptive NC Optimiser enhances this further by automatically adjusting noise cancellation settings to fit changing surroundings, including air pressure variations. The improved Auto Ambient Sound mode uses multiple microphones to intelligently filter or admit external sounds when necessary, ensuring that users remain aware of their environment without compromising music quality. All settings can be adjusted manually or through the Sony Sound Connect app.

Engineered in collaboration with Grammy-winning mastering engineers from world-renowned studios like Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering, the WH-1000XM6 delivers studio-quality sound. This includes fine-tuned frequency response and exceptional detail, allowing users to hear music exactly as the artist intended. With advanced components such as a carbon fiber composite dome and optimized voice coil structure, the headphones enhance every note, instrument, and vocal.

The WH-1000XM6 also incorporates LDAC for high-resolution wireless audio and DSEE Extreme™ to restore compressed music files in real time. A look-ahead noise shaping system boosts the digital-to-analog conversion process, resulting in richer bass and more natural, dynamic sound.

Sony has redesigned the headphones for maximum comfort, featuring a wider vegan leather headband and ergonomic ear cushions that reduce pressure for extended wear. Intuitive physical buttons and responsive touch controls make adjusting settings simple, while the durable foldable design and magnetic carrying case ensure convenience and portability.

Call quality sees a major improvement too. With six beamforming microphones and AI-driven noise reduction, the headphones isolate your voice from background chatter, ensuring every word is heard clearly in both personal and professional settings.

For entertainment, WH-1000XM6 supports 360 Reality Audio Upmix for a cinematic surround sound effect, even from standard stereo tracks. Gamers can benefit from a dedicated Game EQ mode designed to enhance FPS gameplay, while music and film fans can enjoy scene-based listening that adjusts audio settings automatically depending on activity and location.

The headphones support LE Audio for ultra-low latency, making them ideal for gaming and live streaming. Multi-point connectivity and Auto Switch features let users seamlessly toggle between devices, and a three-minute quick charge gives up to three hours of playback when time is tight.

Sony has also emphasized sustainability with this launch. The WH-1000XM6 packaging is made entirely from recyclable, plant-based materials. The headphones are available in three stylish colors: Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue.

As part of the launch, Sony has teamed up with global superstar Post Malone to promote the new model. Known for his genre-defying music and artistic authenticity, Post Malone embodies the core values behind Sony’s “For The Music” campaign, which highlights the company’s commitment to connecting creators with listeners through superior audio technology.

The Sony WH-1000XM6 will be available starting May 2025, with a recommended retail price of 5,490 SEK.
