Rockstar Acquires Developer Behind L.A. Noire Remaster and GTA: The Trilogy
Rockstar Games has officially acquired Video Games Deluxe, the Australian studio responsible for developing the remastered version of L.A. Noire and assisting with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. The studio will now be rebranded as Rockstar Australia, marking the company’s first dedicated studio in the country.
Video Games Deluxe, based in Sydney, was founded in 2013 by Brendan McNamara, who previously led Team Bondi—the original developers of L.A. Noire. Since then, the studio has worked closely with Rockstar, including developing L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files. The acquisition signals Rockstar’s continued commitment to remastering and re-releasing its classic titles, possibly hinting at more remastered projects in the future.
The financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed. However, sources indicate that Rockstar aims to utilize Rockstar Australia to handle future remasters, technical updates, and VR adaptations of its classic games, allowing its primary studios to focus on larger projects such as Grand Theft Auto VI.
With GTA VI scheduled for release in 2025, Rockstar Games continues to expand its global reach and development capabilities, ensuring its past and future titles receive long-term support.
