Yesterday, Nintendo revealed its financial results for the fiscal year 2024, which concluded on March 31, and simultaneously delivered forecasts for the ongoing fiscal year 2025. Alongside this announcement, the company’s top executive, Shuntaro Furukawa, via X, disclosed that “the successor to Nintendo Switch” would be announced fairly soon. This marks the first public mention of the successor, effectively making it officially announced.

The Japanese company literally assures us that “we will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.”

Additionally, in the same message, Furukawa writes that a new Nintendo Direct presentation is on the horizon for June (likely sometime after the Summer Game Fest, around the time when E3 traditionally took place). However, he warns that this presentation will be entirely devoted to games coming to the console in the second half of 2024, with no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor.
