Nintendo Switch 2 Officially Announced – Launching This June
After years of speculation and leaks, Nintendo has finally confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2. The next-gen hybrid console is set to hit store shelves on June 5, 2025, and it’s shaping up to be a major upgrade from its predecessor.
A More Powerful Hybrid
Staying true to the hybrid formula that made the original Switch a massive success, the Switch 2 can still be used both as a handheld and in docked mode. The new model features a larger 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen and can pump out up to 4K at 60 FPS when docked. Internally, the console comes with 256 GB of storage, which can be expanded via microSD Express cards for faster load times and storage flexibility.
Joy-Con 2 and GameChat
Nintendo is also introducing redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers, which now attach magnetically. A new ‘C’ button gives players quick access to GameChat, a built-in voice and video chat feature. While the voice functionality is native, video calls will require an optional camera accessory.
Price, Versions & Launch Games
The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch in two flavors:
- Base model at $449.99
- Mario Kart World bundle at $499.99
Pre-orders open April 9, so mark your calendars if you’re planning to be an early adopter.
As for games, Nintendo is coming in strong. First-party titles include:

There will also be enhanced Switch 2 Editions of iconic Zelda games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. And for third-party fans, titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Street Fighter 6 are confirmed. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will also get access to GameCube classics like Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2, and F-Zero GX.
