Take-Two Interactive has escalated its response to a fresh wave of Grand Theft Auto VI leaks, using federal DMCA subpoenas to seek identifying information from Microsoft and Discord. The move follows several unauthorized gameplay clips appearing online under the CyberLeek name just days before Rockstar Games is due to give GTA VI its next official extended showing.

The leaked material has not been formally authenticated by Rockstar or Take-Two. However, multiple reports describe footage showing protagonist Jason Duval performing ordinary open-world activities, including playing basketball, alongside other gameplay scenes. Some clips have subsequently been removed following copyright complaints, while Take-Two's court filings explicitly concern copyrighted GTA VI material and alleged infringers.

Take-Two is trying to identify the leaker

Take-Two filed separate requests in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on August 20. Rather than lawsuits establishing who leaked the material, these are DMCA subpoena proceedings intended to obtain information that could identify the alleged infringer or infringers.

According to reporting on the filings, Microsoft and Discord have been asked for account and investigative records connected to the leak investigation. The requests cover information such as account identifiers, registration and login IP addresses, phone numbers and other records that could help connect online activity to a person. The Discord request also reaches accounts communicating in servers identified in the filings.

Both companies are asked to provide the requested material by September 4. Microsoft has publicly indicated that it is working with Take-Two and Rockstar to help protect their creative work, but that does not establish who is behind CyberLeek or how the material was obtained.

The footage appeared before Rockstar's official extended look

The timing makes the leak particularly awkward for Rockstar. The company has scheduled “An Extended Look” at Grand Theft Auto VI for August 27 at 3 PM ET. Rockstar's official GTA VI page currently promotes that presentation while continuing to list the game for a November 19, 2026 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The leaked clips circulating ahead of that presentation reportedly include Jason outside his home and playing basketball, while interface elements have prompted speculation about systems such as stamina and a “Focus” function. Those details should still be treated cautiously: leaked footage can come from unfinished builds, and Rockstar has not confirmed that the circulating interface represents the final game.

CyberLeek adds another layer to the story

The CyberLeek identity has attached its own messaging to the releases and has also promoted a cryptocurrency token tied to the project. Reports say the operator has framed the leaks as a protest against parts of the games industry's digital business model and has used the token in connection with voting on future releases. Those claims describe CyberLeek's stated positioning, not a verified explanation of who is responsible or what access they have.

For Take-Two, the immediate objective is clearer: stop unauthorized GTA VI material from spreading and identify the people involved. The publisher's decision to seek records from two major platforms shows that the response has moved beyond ordinary takedown notices, even though the subpoenas themselves do not prove the identity of the leaker.

GTA VI is still set for November

None of the current leak reporting changes Rockstar's announced launch plan. Grand Theft Auto VI remains scheduled for November 19, 2026, and Rockstar's US store lists the Standard Edition at $79.99. The game is currently announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

With Rockstar's extended presentation only days away, the distinction between leaked material and the official showcase matters. The leaks may offer glimpses of GTA VI, but the August 27 presentation will be the better reference point for judging what Rockstar itself is ready to show from the game in its current form.
