GTA VI’s $400 Collector’s Box Is Packed With Merch — But Not the Game

Rockstar Games has opened pre-orders for a lavish Grand Theft Auto VI collector’s box, but anyone expecting a copy of GTA VI inside will need to budget for the game separately. The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection is an 11-item merchandise set inspired by the fictional Leonida TV show Macca the Gator, and Rockstar’s European store lists it at €399.99.

The collection is scheduled to arrive on November 19, the same date Rockstar gives for Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar describes the box as a limited-edition collectible set available while supplies last, rather than as a special edition of the game itself. The distinction matters: the official product page explicitly says Grand Theft Auto VI is sold separately.

What is actually inside the GTA VI collector’s box

The package leans heavily into Vice City and Leonida memorabilia. Its most conventional premium item is a pair of matte-black Oakley Frogskins sunglasses with Prizm Sapphire lenses and a pink GTA VI logo. There is also a New Era 9FORTY A-Frame snapback and a Leonida Keys crossbody bag.

Rockstar says the Macca figure has a twist-open base for storing small items. The magnetic pink glass mirror can double as a tray or be mounted as artwork, while the poster places Macca characters on one side and a full view of the Leonida map on the other. The box itself measures 19 by 13.5 by 12.5 inches, or roughly 48.3 by 34.3 by 31.8 cm.

The game costs extra

The unusual part is not simply the price but what that price does not buy. Rockstar’s store currently lists the collection at €399.99 in the European storefront, while the US listing is $399.99. Neither price includes GTA VI. Shipping is also excluded from the store’s free-shipping offer.

Swedish coverage from Aftonbladet displayed the local price as 4,510 kronor and highlighted the negative reaction from some fans to a collector-focused package at that price without the game. That figure should be treated as a regional store price rather than a currency conversion; Rockstar’s storefront can display different currencies and regional pricing depending on location.

Rockstar has done this before

A game-less collector’s box is not unprecedented for Rockstar. Red Dead Redemption 2 received a Collector’s Box in 2018 that was also sold separately from the game. The new GTA VI package follows that merchandise-first approach, only at a substantially higher headline price and with branded accessories such as Oakley sunglasses and a New Era cap among the contents.

For now, Rockstar is positioning The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection as a limited collectible rather than an essential version of GTA VI. The company says more GTA VI apparel and collectibles are still to come, so this box appears to be the opening move in a broader merchandise push around the launch.
