A few of the new icons (that follow Microsoft’s design language “Fluent Design”) have already started appearing in Windows 10. However, Microsoft says it will be a year-long project before all the redesigned icons will have been implemented in Windows 10.

If you are interested in design in general and icon design in particular, jump to this page. There, Microsoft designer Christina Koehn has written a long post about how they thought and did when designing the new icons for Windows 10. She writes, among other things:

“Leveraging the Fluent Design System, we introduced depth and color to our iconography. These additional cues are subtle, but they make a world of difference when scanning an interface.”
