Nintendo is maintaining a firm hold on the Japanese gaming market as both Mario Kart World and the newly released Switch 2 continue to top the country’s physical sales charts. The latest weekly data shows that the kart racer is once again the best-selling game in Japan, with the Switch 2 leading all hardware by a wide margin.

Over 102,000 physical copies of Mario Kart World were sold during the most recent tracking week, pushing its total sales in Japan beyond 2.35 million units. Other high-ranking titles include Kirby Air Ride and Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but neither has managed to challenge Mario’s top spot.

On the hardware side, the momentum is equally strong. The Switch 2 moved over 203,000 units in just one week, significantly outpacing its older siblings—the original Switch and Switch OLED—as well as Sony’s PlayStation 5. This performance continues a trend that began with the console’s launch earlier this year, reinforcing Nintendo’s dominant position in the Japanese market.

As the holiday season ramps up, all signs point to continued success for Nintendo, with Mario Kart World and the Switch 2 showing no signs of slowing down.
