Nintendo has once again proven its mastery of nostalgic fan service. In the new GameCube Classics app for Switch 2, users have discovered a delightful set of Easter eggs that pay tribute to the original GameCube console’s quirky startup sounds.

Just like on the original hardware, these secret startup sequences can be triggered by holding certain buttons or connecting multiple controllers. For instance, holding the R button while launching the app activates a variant startup with squeaky toy sounds, while plugging in four controllers and pressing R on each of them unlocks a kabuki theater-style intro. Additionally, tilting the analog stick in any direction brings up the classic GameCube boot-up sound and animation.

This clever inclusion not only brings a wave of nostalgia but also highlights Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to honoring its legacy in ways that surprise and delight longtime fans.

The GameCube Classics app is available for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers, and it launched with titles like F-Zero GX, Soulcalibur II, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. More games are expected to be added over time.

Fans can also pair the newly released wireless GameCube controller, which adds a purple theme and authentic GameCube sound effects to the app interface, further enhancing the retro experience.
