Google Finally Lets You Change Your Gmail Address
After years of user frustration, Google is now allowing Gmail users to change their primary email address — without having to create a brand-new account. This long-awaited feature is especially welcome for anyone stuck with an outdated or embarrassing email handle they picked years ago.
The option appears under the email settings of your Google Account. Once changed, the old address will remain linked as an alias, meaning it can still be used to receive emails and log in. However, there are a few limitations: you won’t be able to recycle your previous address for a new account for 12 months, and the new address can’t be deleted immediately after switching.
It’s a significant shift in how Gmail accounts work, and while the feature is rolling out gradually, many users are already starting to see it live. For those who’ve been waiting to update their digital identity, this update brings long overdue flexibility.
