Nintendo’s recent update to Mario Kart World has triggered widespread backlash among fans, especially those who favor traditional three-lap races. Version 1.1.2 introduced changes to the “Random” track selection in online Versus mode, a previously reliable way to avoid the less popular intermission-style races.

Instead of consistently launching players into classic circuit tracks, the “Random” option now often selects adjacent intermission routes—point-to-point tracks with fewer technical challenges. This tweak significantly reduces the chance of experiencing the traditional gameplay many players prefer and has been viewed as a push by Nintendo toward its new open-world racing model.

The change hasn’t gone unnoticed. Communities on Reddit and ResetEra have been vocal about their dissatisfaction, calling the update a step backward for competitive racing. Despite the backlash, Nintendo has yet to comment on the criticism or signal any potential rollbacks.

Fans remain hopeful that future updates will address the concerns and bring back the race variety that made the game a hit among both casual and hardcore players.
