Apple is reportedly developing its first foldable iPhone, with a potential launch as early as 2026. This move would mark a significant shift in Apple’s product lineup, introducing a new form factor to its flagship device.

According to industry insider Yeux1122, Apple has entered the “formal development process” for the foldable iPhone, collaborating with display manufacturers such as LG Display and Samsung Display. This information was reportedly sourced from the supply chain.

The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a clamshell design, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series. This design would allow the device to fold vertically, offering a compact form factor when closed and a larger display when open. The internal code name for this project is “V68.”

Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market comes as the segment experiences significant growth. The global market for foldable smartphones has seen a 49% increase in the first quarter of 2024, with Samsung leading the market.

While Apple has not officially confirmed these developments, the company’s involvement with display manufacturers and the assignment of an internal code name suggest that the foldable iPhone is moving beyond the conceptual stage. As the 2026 launch window approaches, more details are expected to emerge.
