GTA 6 Reportedly Weighs In at a Massive 210GB — But There's a Catch
A new report points to a huge 210GB PS5 download for Grand Theft Auto VI, but Rockstar has yet to confirm the number.

Grand Theft Auto VI may require a whopping 210GB of storage on PlayStation 5, according to a newly circulating report. That's a substantial chunk of any console SSD, but before you start deleting half your library, there's an important distinction: Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed that figure.
The number comes from PlayStation Game Size, an account known for tracking information associated with PlayStation downloads. Its October 27 post lists a 210GB download alongside a November 12 preload date and November 19 release. Dexerto has reported the claim, citing additional corroboration attributed to Insider Gaming. That still makes this a reported figure rather than a published Rockstar storage requirement.
What 210GB actually means for PS5 owners
If the figure proves accurate, GTA VI would occupy roughly 31% of the original PlayStation 5's approximately 667GB of usable internal storage. That's before accounting for any extra room the console might need during installation, patches or later updates. Anyone juggling several large games could face an uncomfortable choice about what to uninstall.
The practical impact also depends on whether 210GB refers to the compressed download, the installed footprint or an early package that might change before release. Those measurements aren't interchangeable. A game can require more space once installed than its initial download suggests, and patches can shift the total again.
For players with slower connections, the download alone is a commitment. At a steady 100Mbps, transferring 210GB would theoretically take about four hours and forty minutes, excluding network overhead, server slowdowns and any other downloads competing for bandwidth. At 50Mbps, that estimate nearly doubles.
Why the figure is plausible — but not proven
Rockstar's last major open-world releases have hardly been lightweight. The PC storage requirements for Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V illustrate how large modern Rockstar games can become, although PC requirements are not directly comparable with a PS5 download. GTA VI's dense urban environments, extensive voice work, high-resolution assets and huge world all make a substantial install believable.
But believable isn't the same as verified. Earlier claims about GTA VI's size have ranged widely, and some viral screenshots have offered extraordinary numbers without dependable evidence. A seemingly precise figure can spread very quickly when millions of people are waiting for a release. Until an official store listing or a verified preload provides a concrete number, 210GB should be treated as a credible report, not settled fact.
What about Xbox Series X and Series S?
The current claim specifically concerns the PlayStation version. It does not establish the final installation size on Xbox Series X or Series S. Different platform builds can use different packaging and compression, so applying the PS5 number directly to Xbox would be premature.
Series S owners in particular will want to keep an eye on the eventual storage requirement. The smaller-capacity models have limited space for large installations, making an SSD expansion or a little library housekeeping potentially useful. However, there is no verified Xbox figure to base a purchasing decision on yet.
When will we know for sure?
Rockstar currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Reports point to preloading on November 12, which should give digital buyers time to prepare if that schedule holds. The preload is also a likely opportunity to see an actual download size rather than another estimate.
For now, there's no reason to rush out and buy extra storage solely because of a 210GB rumor. Checking available SSD space and identifying a few games you could temporarily remove is a sensible precaution, especially if you're planning to play at launch. Just remember that a confirmed storage requirement and an unofficial download-size report are two different things.
The takeaway is straightforward: 210GB would make GTA VI an exceptionally large console release, but the number remains unconfirmed by Rockstar. We'll have a much clearer picture when the final console packages become available.
